CORFU. Make-A-Wish and the Central and North Corfu Municipalities came together to make the girl΄s wish come true.
A young girl from North Corfu, who recently had serious health problems, made a wish for a small children's playground in her garden.
Make-A-Wish Greece heard about the wish as did some Corfu volunteers and they came together to make the young girl's wish come true.
The Central Corfu Councillor for Voluntary Work Spyros Neratzis talks about the project, thanking all those who worked selflessly to give some joy to the young girl after her difficult ordeal:
"The joy of volunteering came to the fortunate volunteers in North Corfu today with the opportunity to take part in the Make-A-Wish Greece project.
We had the good fortune to take part in the final stage (setting-up) of the wish of the young girl who has just recently overcome a health problem.

The wish that Make-A-Wish Greece fulfilled was a children's playground in the little girl's garden.
Her wish came true today!
In the stage of the project that we had the good fortune to take part we would like to thank the following for their excellent cooperation and work:
- First of all, the local reporter Iro Lela, who was our liaison with Make-A-Wish Greece, for giving us the opportunity to experience the joy and pleasure of this project.
- The parents of the young girl for their strength, big hearts and for inspiring us with their optimism.
- The Make-A-Wish representative Katerina Tsolaki for trusting us with the work.
In setting up the playground we were again fortunate to find willing volunteers and professionals. Due to the pandemic measures, however, we found ourselves in the unfortunate position of having to deprive a lot of people of the chance to take part - only up to 9 people could come together.
We would like to thank:
1. North Corfu Mayor Giorgos Mahimaris and Deputy Mayors Spyridoula Kokkali and Fanis Skebris for their cooperation and immediate response with any assistance that was required - either materials or human resources. For their presence and excellent cooperation along with allowing us to coordinate the whole project I, personally, would like to give them special thanks.
Fanis Skebris
2. Our friend Alekos Troussas, who is a professional in setting up children's playgrounds, for his guidance and the confidence he gave us.
3. Axonas Transport Company and Nikos Banos for their enthusiastic voluntary participation in transporting the equipment and materials to the location for set-up.
4. Dear Marios Koustas for his enthusiasm and support.
5. The professional tile setter Sotiris Paschos, who filled us with confidence and immediately responded to our request for him to join the team and be responsible for laying the ground area.
6. The North Corfu Municipal crew with their big smiles - Spyros Giorgotas, Alexandros Armenis and Dimitris Koskinas. Not only were they thoroughly professional but did everything with a smile, humour and enthusiasm.
See more photos of the setting up of the playground here.
7. The wonderful locals from this village and the neighbouring villages - Stefanos Tsenebis, Stathis Kefalonitis, Yiannis Xanthos and the tireless Agrafon President Spyros Provatas - well-known for his amazing humour and imagination - who took part in all aspects of the work and justifying the title of 'World Leader'!
8. The owner of the land, Spyros, who gave us free use of his land to complete the project.
9. The young volunteer Nikos Kolomvos - the young blood of the group who demonstrated that the younger generation wants to and can offer a lot.
10. Dear Letta Himariou, who brought her big smile, passion and imagination to the project.
11. The two youngsters from the audio-visual company dropsoflife Dora Kolitsi and Pavlos Veloudakis who recorded the project.
We have left to last the 'usual suspects' who have been taking part in All Together for Corfu activities since 2014:
1. The versatile Spyros Tsilibaris. professional plumber, who always makes sure we have all the necessary tools.
2. Dimitris Gerochristos, another versatile professional plumber, who today turned his hand to putting together children's play equipment.
3. Finally, the quiet power - the firefighter and president of Potamos Cultural Society Nikos Karatarakis.
We would like to thank them all for all the enthusiastic and tireless work they put in."
