CORFU. The vote took place at Monday΄s Municipal Council meeting.
The subject of the meeting was το amend the obligation of the Ikos company (Corfu Gardens AK.ΤΕ.ΧΕ) to give a section of land to Central Corfu Municipality to payment of money.
All the councillors in the parties led by Ydraiou (15), Trepeklis (12) and Neratzis (3) along with Spyros Poulis voted in favour.
Those who voted against were the councillors in the parties led by Kaloudis (4) and Sarlis (3), Laiki Syspirosi (3), Nikiforos Kosmas from Ekkinisi, Maria Dri from Kerkyra 180, Giorgos Karydis from Kerkyraikis Symmahias and Eleana Faita, President of Kato Korakiana Local Council.
The conditions necessary for the issuing of planning permission to the new owners who also manage the Dassia Ikos property were discussed. These provide for payment by the owner either in the form of a section of land or money to the Municipality to be used for infrastructure beyond the land in question to improve the quality of life for local residents and the area in general.
The new owners prefer to pay a sum of money, which is estimated to be in the region of €2.5m.
Kato Korakiana Local Council is opposed to this and is in favour of the owners giving land - which would be around 70 stremma - and not money.
Mayor Meropi Ydraiou's proposal
There was strong opposition to Meropi Ydraiou's proposal, which was supported by the parties of Trepeklis and Neratzis. The Council was split on the matter and two teleconferences were required to complete the discussion.
The Mayor said that it is a piece of private land that was been sold to Ikos. She said that payment in land (rather than money) would be of no real benefit to the Municipality as it would not have the right to build but would have the obligation to maintain it, including the stream. "The Municipality has hundreds of plots of land which have not been exploited and aren't even listed in the Land Registry," she said.
Ms. Ydraiou proposed that the company pays the money immediately, in 2021, which will be used for necessary infrastructure work in Kato Korakiana. She also proposed that the company be requested to allow access to the beach and for the construction of something that would be of benefit to the community.
