UK. The benefit to Corfu and the other 4 safe destinations (Zakynthos, Crete, Rhodes and Kos) is mainly in terms of their tourist image as there are no direct flights now from the UK.
The UK Department of Transport announced that Corfu and another four Greek islands, including Zakynthos, remain on the UK Government's Safe List following the latest assessment of the pandemic data.
Greece, with the exception of Corfu, Zakynthos, Crete, Rhodes and Kos, has been removed from its “travel corridor” exemptions list for quarantine which means that travellers arriving in the UK from anywhere in Greece, except for these five islands, must self-isolate for 14 days.
This was announced yesterday (12/11) by Transport Secretary Grant Shapps and comes into force from 4am Saturday 14 November.
It should be noted, however, that the tourist season has ended and none of the five islands has direct flights to the UK, which means that those travelling there will have to pass through Athens.
However, it will probably be of benefit to the tourist image of the five islands that they are considered 'safe' by the UK Government.
Until 2 December, travelling is restricted from England except in limited circumstances such as for work or for education. Different rules apply in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
