CORFU. According to the contractual agreement, the work will be completed in the next two months.
The container with the desalination unit arrived in Mathraki today following careful transportation coordinated by Central Corfu Municipality and Deputy Mayor for the island Vassilis Argyros.
The transportation was not a simple matter and required special handling both in the transportation to the island and in setting it up so as not to cause any damage.
The setting up of the desalination unit in Mathraki, which has received state funding of €170,000, is being managed by DEYAK and, according to the contractual agreement, will be completed in the next two months. The funding has been assured and what remains is for electrical power to be supplied and the necessary pipes to be constructed.
The unit was today placed in the location where it will operate and will at last bring to an end the problems the islanders had with water supply.
Deputy Mayor Vassilis Argyros thanked the Mayor for her support in getting the unit constructed as soon as possible and stressed the importance of getting the unit transported and placed today - of the Diapontia Islands Mathraki has the greatest problem with lack of water.
Mr. Argyros added that he will do everything in his power to get the work completed and the unit in operation in the coming months.
