CORFU. Prison officers and inmates of H Wing were tested.
There was mass testing of prison officers at Corfu Prison following the positive test results for two inmates announced on Monday.
The two inmates, aged 36 and 39, were placed in a special isolation area in the prison and all the inmates of H Wing were put in quarantine.
There was great concern amongst the prison officers as there were suspicions that some of them may have been infected. On Wednesday night tests had still not been conducted by EODY and there was talk that there would only be sample tests. This led to the Prison Officers' Association requesting that all the officers be tested - a total of 80 people.
Eventually, a team from EODY came on Thursday and tested the 22 other inmates in the wing and 38 officers who work inside the prison, except for those on leave.
According to information, none of the personnel have symptoms and health regulations are being strictly adhered to as well as disinfection.
