CORFU. The TUI Cruises ship arrives at Corfu Port with a one-day delay.
The ship is still at Piraeus Port today, Wednesday, but will resume its cruise following the hold-up due to the 12 Covid tests that initially appeared positive but were later confirmed as negative. EODY conducted a further three tests on board the ship - antigen and PCR - which confirmed that the initial results were false positives.
In his regular update yesterday, Civil Protection Deputy Minister Nikos Hardalias said that in the case of Mein Schiff 6 "It is clear that the protocol regarding the positivity of samples wasn't followed by the lab in the case of the cruise ship and this will need to be looked into."
Infectious diseases specialist Gikas Mayiorkinis added that "It is extremely important how results are interpreted. Sometimes the results are clear and sometimes a follow-up is required."
The ship will now continue its cruise and will be in Corfu on Friday morning.
