CORFU. Crews are out repairing damage and the head of DEDDIE in Corfu said that most of the power should be restored by tonight.

There are problems with electricity supply throughout the island following the adverse weather conditions in the early hours of the morning.

The Corfu DEDDIE Director Nikos Sofianos told Enimerosi that since yesterday over 25 personnel are out trying to repair the damage as quickly as possible. The Director estimates that by tonight the damage to cables, caused mainly by fallen trees and fire breaking out in electricity poles, will have been repaired.

Technicians and crews from Peloponnese and Epirus have already come to Corfu to give assistance.

However, Mr. Sofianos stressed to Enimerosi that the repair work being carried out on the overhead cables is extremely dangerous given the present weather conditions.

At the moment, there are problems in Corfu Town, especially in Capodistriou St., San Rocco, around the open-air market and Kanoni - where a tree has fallen onto cables. In the rest of the island, the main problems are on Mt. Pantokrator (antennae) and in Agios Stefanos Sinies, Kerasia, Loutses, Yiannades, Liapades, Varipatades, Kouspades and Kavos.
