Case numbers rise in France and Germany - more quarantine measures

(CGTN Europe) France recorded its highest number of daily new infections on Wednesday, with 5,429 new cases reported in the past 24 hours.
- Germany's number of new infections rose by 1,507 in the past 24 hours, bringing the cumulative total to 237,936. Deaths also rose, by five to 9,285.
- Germany has warned its citizens against travel to Andorra and Gibraltar amid rising infection rates in the two nations.
- Germany could extend a ban on large events until the end of the year in a bid to slow the spread of the virus.
- The UK government will pay low-income residents to self-isolate if they show symptoms of the virus. The government will pay $171.70 for the 10-day period of self isolation, while other members of the household will be entitled to $240.38.
- Portugal's government has reported a public deficit of $9.8 billion for the first half of 2020. This figure is more than 17 times the number reported during the same period last year.
