Corfu: Steady increase in airport arrivals - dramatic drop in port arrivals

This week domestic port arrivals, which have in any case decreased by 50 - 60%, have dropped to around 30%, according to the shipping companies. At Igoumenitsa Port there is exceptionally little traffic - just cars - and the majority of groups have cancelled their bookings.

According to shipping sources and members of the Regional Administration, a significant factor has been the new measures limiting the opening hours of catering establishments, which has had a negative effect on domestic tourism.

As an example, one tourist coach every three days passes through Igoumenitsa Port now whereas last week there were up to thirty coaches a day.

At Corfu Airport, on the other hand, international flights continue to increase and 57 flights are expected on Saturday 15 August. At the start of this year's tourist period there were 12 - 15 flights a day but this number has now tripled. UK flights, which started later, are steadily growing in number and the number of UK arrivals has probably now overtaken that of arrivals from Germany.

On Sunday 9 August 39 international flights arrived compared to 35 the previous Sunday.
On Wednesday 12 August 39 international flights arrived compared to 36 the previous Wednesday.
Today, Friday 14 August, there are 41 flights compared to 39 the previous Friday.
Tomorrow, Saturday 15 August, there will be 57 international flights arriving compared to 55 on both of the previous Saturdays.
