CORFU. Until the boat is repaired the island shuttle service will be by water taxi from Cafe Yiali for the same price.
The boat 'Agios Stefanos' that operates the shuttle service to and from Vidos Island has been out of service for two days. The necessary spare part was ordered but when it arrived was found to be unsuitable. In order that the shuttle service can continue, especially at this time of the year, the responsible Councillor Spyros Neratzis has come to an agreement with the private water taxi owners.
The shuttle service will continue as normal on the hour every hour for the same price (2 Euros) until the Municipal boat has been repaired - hopefully by tomorrow., Friday. There will be a different departure point from normal - Cafe Yiali. Due to the small capacity of the taxis (max. 11 passengers), if all the seats are filled, visitors will have to wait a few minutes and another shuttle will come right away.
From the time of the damage the shuttle service has been carried out by volunteers at no cost. Spyros Neratzis said, "Thalassa Services - the Lifeguard School which patrols the Central Corfu Municipal shore, Giorgos Goudinas with his water taxi, Menios Kastamonitis, Panos Varouchas - sea tourism professional and Deputy Mayor for Tourism, Nondas Halikias - the youngster with the big smile who always transfers anyone left on Vidos for whatever reason, Captain Yiannis Makropoulos and Marilena Souareff - who helped with administration - all volunteered their services so that there should be no problem following the minor engine problem with the boat 'Agios Stefanos'.
