PM visits Corfu Hospital - Director presents him with special gift

CORFU. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited Corfu Hospital yesterday accompanied by Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias and 6th Health Region Director Ioannis Karvelis.
This was the first time that an incumbent Prime Minister had visited Corfu Hospital.
The Prime Minister stayed for a short time at the hospital and spoke with the Hospital Director and Board members.
Director Leonidas Roubatis presented Mr. Mitsotakis with a portrait of him painted by Stefania Karydi. He thanked him warmly for honouring them with a visit and his practical interest in resolving the issues faced by the hospital.
At the meeting they discussed public health issues in the region, especially during the current difficult tourist season in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Health Minister announced the following:
- The acquisition of equipment to detect sars-Cov2 by PCR with the ability to test approximately 300 samples a day.
- Auxiliary personnel will be given permanent contracts via a procedure to be announced shortly.
- The immediate recruitment of 37 auxiliary personnel in various disciplines.
- Hospital personnel who are participating in OAED programmes funded by ESPA will be kept on.
- The provision of financial incentives for doctors in order to fill vacant positions through an open recruitment programme in collaboration with the Ionian Islands Regional Administration.
Leonidas Roubatis thanked the Health Minister for these commitments, which will considerably improve the health services offered by the hospital.
He also thanked the 6th Health Region Director for his support in improving all the services offered by the hospital and they agreed to continue their collaboration.
