School of Tourist Guides to open in Corfu, Rhodes and Rethymnon - each to take 40 students

ATHENS. Ministry of Tourism Deputy Minister Manos Konsolas put his signature to the decision to accept students at three new Schools of Tourist Guides
It was also announced that new students will be admitted to the Schools of Tourist Guides in Athens and Thessaloniki.
The Deputy Minister said, "We took the first step a year ago. For the first time two streams of students (1st and 2nd year) were admitted to Athens School of Tourist Guides and after almost 10 years the School in Thessaloniki is operating again.
Now we are opening three new schools in Rethymnon, Crete, Corfu and Rhodes. The Government and the Ministry of Tourism were determined to improve touristm education and the tourist guide profession."
Mr. Konsolas added, "For the first time there is a national network of Tourist Guide Schools in five towns - a significant development in tourism education.
Through these schools guides will be trained to respond to the new demands of the tourist market and the tourist guide profession will be upgraded."
Each of the schools in Corfu, Rethymnon and Rhodes will have 40 students. The schools in Athens and Thessaloniki will admit another 35 students each.
Those wishing to apply for admittance must do so between 31/8 and 11/9 on the website www.mintour.edu.gr - for the first time applications are being made online.
