CORFU. Work began today on Vidos Island.

Under the general supervision of Councillor Spyros Neratzis, a total of 16 lorries and other vehicles were taken across to the island on a special ferry boat from 8:00 this morning.

The Municipal Technical Works Department, the Cleansing Services, Civil Protection, Fire Department, contractors and volunteers all got to work on a makeover of the island. They started off by fencing off the Centre for Creative Activities, cleaning up and removing old and bulky objects. The work to be done includes replacing electrical and plumbing installations and fittings, repairing the paved paths that lead to the Serbian Mausoleum and the pergola by the beach at the back of the island.

It is estimated that the work will be completed in about a week and the Creative Activities facilities will then be ready. Spyros Neratzis told Enimerosi that all the work was being well-coordinated and all the Municipal workers were extremely keen to do whatever was asked of them.
