PATRA. Corfu is at the forefront of the ΄competition΄ between tourist destinations to provide health safety.

There was promising news regarding the public health situation in Corfu following a meeting between Corfu KINAL MP Dimitris Biangis and the Director of the 6th Health Region Mr. Karvelis in Patra on Friday.

Referral hospital

Corfu is at the forefront of the 'competition' between tourist destinations to provide health safety. According to what the Director told the Corfu MP, Corfu Hospital has 28 beds available for COVID-19 cases, including 7 ICUs!

Add to this the collaboration that already exists with the Ioannina University Hospital Lab for coronavirus sample testing and the recent acquisition of similar diagnostic equipment in Corfu and the hospital seems to be in complete readiness.

Too good to be true

The MP brought up the need for staffing both for the 4th floor, which is the referral unit for any coronavirus cases there may be and for the hospital in general. He was assured by Mr. Karvelis that if there are COVID-19 emergency needs - something which everyone hopes there won't be - he can, through emergency procedures, immediately send medical and nursing personnel from other parts of the country.

Lack of personnel

As regards the general situation with lack of sufficient personnel at the hospital, he told the MP that the Ministry of Health will allow him to cover this need in the near future. At first, this will be with auxiliary personnel, who will then become permanent once the necessary procedures have been completed.

Haemodynamic centre

Concluding their long meeting, the Corfu MP announced his idea of setting up a Haemodynamic centre in Corfu Hospital to help deal with emergency cardiovascular incidents and the Director promised to assist in this initiative.
