Gradual relaxation of measures in Europe with an eye on what is happening with the economy and concern about what is coming this winter.

- Spain's government has declared a 10-day official mourning period from Wednesday to honor the nearly 30,000 who died from the coronavirus. Flags will fly at half-mast all over the country's public buildings and navy ships, and the period will end with a ceremony led by King Felipe.

- The European Commission is set to unveil a plan to help the EU economy recover from its coronavirus slump with a mix of grants, loans and guarantees to member states exceeding one trillion euros ($1.1 trillion).

- Britain's prime minister, Boris Johnson, will appear before the Commons Liaison Committee for 90 minutes today, to answer questions about his adviser Dominic Cummings' controversial lockdown trip and about how the government has handled the coronavirus crisis.

- Germany's government and its state premiers have agreed to extend social distancing rules until 29 June to contain the pandemic. Public gatherings of up to 10 people will also be allowed from 6 June.

- France's economy could contract by 20 percent in the second quarter from the previous three months as the country emerges from lockdown, the INSEE official statistics agency has estimated.

- Car makers Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi, have announced details of a new strategic plan to deepen cooperation in developing and producing cars to survive as an auto-making group.

- Denmark's central bank has said Danish banks are well-capitalized and able to withstand a severe but temporary economic downturn.

- Norwegian retail sales soared in April, the country's statistics agency has said, defying expectations of a decline amid the pandemic.

- Switzerland will decide on further relaxation of restrictions, including scrapping a four-person limit on people eating together in restaurants, opening nightclubs and allowing private events of up to 300 people and opening football stadiums and theaters for 1,000 people, from 8 June.

- Bulgaria is to allow restaurants, bars and cafes to reopen at full capacity from 1 June as the Balkan country further eases restrictions to allow tourism-dependent businesses to reopen ahead of the summer season.

- Britons spent a record 1.2 billion pounds ($1.5 billion) online buying groceries during a four-week period in April and May as they shunned supermarket trips. Market researcher Nielsen said 7.9 million households placed an online grocery order, up from 4.8 million during the same period last year.
