CORFU. In the first half of June IKOS will announce which properties will open and when, reliable sources have told Enimerosi.
The company wants to open all its hotels in the Mediterranean, even the newly-renovated unit in Marbella, Spain, which is expected to open in September for two months!
The health protocols are being awaited as are all the other conditions regarding travel and accommodation, which will largely determine expected returns for the units. The question remains, however, of what will happen with the British. And the answer to this will be a key factor for Greek tourism - not only for Corfu and IKOS. Britons continue to be discouraged from travelling as when they return they will have to remain in self-isolation for two weeks.
The limitations on flights is another problematic factor for this year's tourist travel. It is hoped that, in time, these restrictions will be lifted and the British market, which is so important for Greece, will open up.
In any case, the hotel properties here are changing their service and operational practices and will, of course, have lower occupancy in order to ensure that proper distancing is maintained in restaurants, bars, cafes and beaches.
August is expected to be very busy, barring unforeseen circumstances, but it is, nevertheless, just one month in a short, limited season.
