CORFU. Following the rubber dinghy given by Spyros Karatarakis, the Municipality has been offered the use of a second boat.
Giorgos Maroufof, a former Corfu Municipality General Secretary (2014-2019), has offered the use of his boat to the Central Corfy & Diapontia Islands Municipality for transporting personnel to and from the islands of Vidos and Lazaretto all year round.
Mr. Maroufof wants to transfer ownership of the wooden boat, which has an inboard diesel engine and is 5.5 metres in length, to the Municipality free of charge and all the legal procedures for the acceptance of a gift have been followed.
The responsible Municipal Councillor Spyros Neratzis made the following statement:
"The Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Municipality thanks Mr Maroufof both for his donation and for the strength and satisfaction given to us by these kinds of actions. We thank him for showing us with this act that one of the basic objectives of our culture - volunteerism - is moving along the right path.
The aim of volunteerism is to demonstrate people's sensitivity and awareness leading slowly to a culture, chiefly amongst young people, of contribution and solidarity."
