Volunteer offers rubber dinghy for shuttle service to Vidos Island

A remarkable offer from a driver with the Municipal Cleansing Department, who gave the Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Municipality the use of his rubber dinghy until 15 September to serve as a shuttle service with Vidos and Lazareto Islands over the summer.

In his letter of thanks to the volunteer Spyros Karatarakis, Spyros Neratzis, responsible for Volunteerism in the Municipality and leader of the party 'I Kerkyra Psilla' said "It is one of the most significant acts in all the time I have been involved in volunteerism!"

Statement from Spyros Neratzis:

"Spyros Karatarakis! One of the 'cogs' in the Municipal 'machine' as a driver with the Cleansing Department.

I had the good fortune to meet him at one of the voluntary activities of  'All Together for Corfu' when we cleaned the town on 17 June 2016.

He was participating with the Potamos Cultural Society, which contributed so much then and in the following five years.

You may ask yourself how a young person is able to take part in and contribute to so many activities enthusiastically and calmly at the same time.

The answer came from our dear friend Spyros, who gave the Municipality the use of his rubber dinghy until 15 September to help with the shuttle service to Vidos and Lazareto Islands and to remain on Vidos Island 24 hours a day during the summer camps for the safety of the visitors.

All these acts show a fellow citizen and Municipal worker who gives his time and property in order to help the Municipality, his children's future as well as his fellow citizens and home town!

For me personally it is one of the most significant acts in all the time I have been involved in volunteerism!
