CORFU. It seems that pressure from tourist professionals and organisations and the acquisition of a PCR testing lab for coronavirus overcame resistance from the hospital administration.
According to medical sources, following a broad teleconference on Wednesday, it is possible that even today, Thursday, the acquisition of the lab and equipment for the hospital will be announced.
The cost will be covered by a donation from the Chamber of Commerce given a while ago. Hospital Director Leonidas Roubatis had claimed that it wasn't necessary given the fact that Ioannina University Hospital lab covered the needs and that it would be costly for the hospital in terms of equipment and personnel.
It seems, however, that the need for Corfu to adapt to the new situation as regards tourism overcame this resistance.
