At yesterday's meeting of Corfu FODSA (Solid Waste Management Organisation) Executive Committee the contract was awarded by majority vote for the transportation of waste to Kozani. The contract was awarded to the only company which fulfilled all the conditions, at the price €76 per ton.

The majority voted in favour with the Mayors of North and South Corfu and Mr. Trepeklis expressing their opposition.

The two Mayors Giorgos Mahimaris and Kostas Lessis submitted a joint memorandum voting against the proposal with €76 per ton and the former Mayor and leader of the 'Kerkyra na Zissis' party Yiannis Trepeklis submitted his own memorandum and abstained.

Following the vote, there now follows a period in which appeals can be lodged and a pre-contractual check is conducted by the Independent Authority before the transportation of waste from Corfu to the DIADYMA facility in Kozani can go ahead.
