΄Empty Chairs΄ protest in Corfu

Catering professionals in Greece will adopt the method of protesting used by those in Berlin. German businesses held a protest about the economic blow they have suffered due to lockdown, asking for support from the State.

As can be seen in the photo, hundreds of chairs were placed in the square in front of the Brandenburg Gate. It seems that the protest by the catering industry in Berlin has inspired businesses in Greece which are also suffering from the consequences of the pandemic to do the same.

Over 30 Associations in the Greek catering industry are planning to hold similar protests in towns and cities across the country with empty chairs as a symbol of protest from the catering and tourist sectors. It is planned to hold these protests simultaneously through Greece on Wednesday 6 May at 20:00.

Corfu protest

Corfu Gastronomy Association will also be taking part on Wednesday 6 May at 20:00 in the European 'Empty Chairs' protest. 

The Association calls on all those involved in the catering and tourism sectors to come and demand that which is self-evident - solutions for the industry to be able to survive - with the slogan "The catering industry is demanding, not begging".

The Association will shortly decide on how the protest will take place.
