KRANIDI. Contact tracing underway with 177 new samples taken.
From Wednesday morning soldiers having been putting up tents at the hotel in Kranidi where the 150 immigrants with coronavirus are staying in order to keep the situation under control. All 150 immigrants remain asymptomatic and in good health. Tests will be carried out in the tents by permanent health workers who will be staying at the hotel.
The whole facility was put in quarantine on Thursday and police are present all round the hotel. Those who tested positive will be separated from the remainder and isolated away from the hotel whilst those who tested negative will be isolated in the hotel.
"People are shocked and there is widespread concern," the Mayor of Ermionida Yiannis Giorgopoulos told OPEN TV on Wednesday morning. "The hotel is 5km from Porto Heli. On Tuesday 21st a team from EODY (National Public Health Organisation) took samples from 170 people - employees at banks, supermarkets, couriers and other services - most of whom had some kind of contact with the 150 immigrants in Kranidi. The results of these tests will be critical as they will show whether the virus has spread. People have been disciplined and have adhered to the measures in Kranidi over the last few days. The immigrants have been in Kranidi since October 2019."
Meanwhile, there is a lockdown in Ermioni Municipality and movement is only allowed between 8pm and 8am in order to contain the possible spread of the virus. All the open-air markets have been temporarily closed and the area sealed off so that nobody comes in or goes out. The Health Centre has been reinforced with 6 doctors and 4 nurses.
"All the proper procedures have been followed from the start," said Civil Protection Deputy Minister Nikos Hardalias following a meeting on Tuesday afternoon. "Everything is under control and the measure that have been taken are purely precautionary. All 150 cases are asymptomatic and the virus hasn't been spread to the local community. Movement will only be allowed for Bi, B2 and B3 - the others have been suspended."
Tracing is underway for contacts of all the confirmed cases at the immigrants' hotel following the first results on Easter Monday.
