81 new confirmed coronavirus cases and 1 death in Greece today - death toll now 50

ATHENS. There have now been 1,375 cases in Greece plus 40 on a cruise ship which is at the moment in Greek waters.
According to Professor of Infectious Diseases Sotiris Tsiodras, there was one death from coronavirus in Greece today, Wednesday 1 April, taking the total number of deaths to 50.
There were 81 new confirmed cases in Greece today, taking the total to 1,415 including another 20 new cases on the cruise ship in Greek waters at the moment.
90 patients are tubed, with an average age of 66. 14 are females and 76 males.
Six patients have been discharged from Intensive Care Units to date.
The number of COVID-19 tests that have been carried out is 17,350.
Regarding the issue of face masks, Prof. Tsiodras said that the guidelines from European authorities were that they should be worn by nursing staff, patients and people who are caring for patients.
He stressed that masks were needed by nursing personnel and that there is huge lack of masks worldwide.
As regards the recording of deaths, he made it clear that, "We are willing to listen to criticism because we are not afraid of the truth. If there was a larger number they would have been recorded in the general register in real time."
Prof. Tsiodras said that the virus spreads quickly wherever it can find fertile ground and stressed that the number of deaths is arrived at by a proper procedure implemented in all european countries.
