CORFU. In response to all the reports the Corfu Archbishop said that he was just saying - as was the Holy Synod - that there is no category in the movement form for individual prayers although the churches remain open for this.

Nektarios, Archbishop of Corfu, Paxos and the Diapontia Islands responded to the reports that said he was encouraging believers to make false statements on their movement forms so that they could go to church and receive communion.

Amongst other things the Archbishop said that it was unacceptable for people to draw imaginary conclusions as he never mentioned the Government or the Prime Minister, who he holds in esteem for his efforts to protect the country from this global crisis.

He said that he was just stating that as the churches remained open for individual prayers there should be a category on the movement form for this so that whosoever wished could leave home for this reason just as they can go out for exercise or take the dog for a walk.

Nektarios pointed out that the Holy Synod had said the same thing in a letter to the Ministry for Education regarding individual prayers and individual communion, adhering to the safety measures set out by the Government.

He also made reference to several published articles by Kyriakos Kyriazopoulos from the Law School at Thessaloniki Aristotle University and the former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown regarding global governance.

Finally, the Archbishop talked about the Easter celebration and stressed that he was praying that, with the help of God, there can be a way to deal with the infection so that believers can celebrate this important Orthodox occasion.
