CORFU. In his message for 25th March, which was broadcast on TV and radio, Archbishop Nektarios encouraged people to state falsely that they are going for exercise and come to church for communion.
Contrary to the Government's orders forbidding church services, the Archbishop said there should be special permission for believers to go to church and receive communion. During his speech following the service for Evaggelismos the Archbishop advised believers to state on the special form that they were going out for another reason and to go to church.
Nektarios said: "People are allowed to go out for exercise and even to take their dogs for walks but there was no provision for people to be able to go to church to pray or receive communion with our Lord's body and blood.
So fill out the form saying you are going out for exercise and come to church to receive communion, to pray and to get strength and hope. Let's not lower our flag. They may say "Don't panic" but we can see that every day they are panicking people. Don't be afraid, in the church you will find life, joy and hope."
