CORFU. The cruise ship MSC Opera, which has been prominent in the news over the last 24 hours, has arrived at Corfu Port with approximately two hours delay.

There are 1,572 passengers on board and no suspected cases of coronavirus as there have been thorough inspections by both the health authorities and the cruise company.

Following a meeting at the Town Hall this morning, the local authority and other Corfu organisations stressed that there was no cause for concern as all the responsible authorities have given assurances that there is no coronavirus problem on the ship and all the necessary health certificates will be issued on arrival.

The passengers boarded a Port Authority bus to be taken to the terminal. As can be seen from the photo, the bus driver wore a mask and gloves as a precaution.

Assurances were given by the Regional Health Inspector Yiannis Ligas and Corfu Port Authority Managing Director Spyros Zervopoulos that all safety measures had been taken and the regulatory health certificates received. They reiterated that there is consequently no cause for concern.
