First implantation of artificial iris in Greece at Corfu Hospital

CORFU. For the first time in Greece there was a successful implantation of an artificial iris in a patient at Corfu General Hospital.
Surgeons at Corfu General Hospital carried out a groundbreaking - for Greece - operation. According to the press release, an artificial iris was successfully implanted in a patient for the first time in Greece.
Statement from the Hospital Administration:
"On Wednesday 29 January a successful operation was carried out at the Ophthalmology Clinic at Corfu General Hospital - the implantation of an artificial iris and anti-glaucoma surgery on a patient who had lost their iris.
This particular type of artificial iris was introduced to Greece for the first time following a request from the Ophthalmology Clinic and the approval of the Hospital Scientific Committee.
The artificial iris is cutting-edge technology and has the appropriate measurements and colour for the patient. The cost was covered by Corfu Hospital and it was the first such implantation in Greece."
