CORFU. The leader of the ΄Prota i Kerkyra΄ party Giorgos Kaloudis put questions to the Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Municipal Council regarding airport and port waste.
Mr. Kaloudis said, "According to information received, Fraport, owned by the German State, has not been paying Corfu Municipality for refuse collection from Capodistrias Airport over the last few years. It is also not known where they dump building rubble.
There are also rumours that waste is collected from cruise ships and other vessels by private companies."
Giorgos Kaloudis asked the local authority: "Who collects the waste from Corfu Airport? If it is the Municipality, does Fraport pay the proper fees? Where does the Fraport waste go? If it is to Temploni, does Fraport pay the proper fees?"
Deputy Mayor for Cleansing Yiannis Seremetis answered his questions and said that refuse collection from the sirport and the port is not done by the Municipality - as set out in the contract signed by the Greek State. He added that the proper fees are paid for whatever waste is taken to the landfill.
