3 immigrants taken by Super Puma to Aktion and then Preveza for hospitalisation

CORFU. Official update from the Ambulance Service regarding emergency medical care for survivors from the boat that sank off Paxos

Just before 15:00 on Saturday 11th the National Ambulance Service (EKAB) issued an update regarding emergency medical care for survivors from the boat that sank off Paxos.

Statement:

"Today, 11th January, at just after 09:00 the Coordination Centre for Ioannina Ambulance Service was informed of the boat sinking southwest of Paxos with approximately 50 immigrants.

The National Coordination Centre was immediately informed and they put Ioannina Ambulance Service on full alert along with the Ambulance Services in Preveza, Arta and Igoumenitsa, the 6th Health Division - covering the Peloponnese, Ionian Islands, Epirus and Western Greece- and Preveza and Ioannina Hospitals.

In the greater Preveza region 11 ambulance units were put on immediate standby alert along with one EKAB Mobile Medical Unit and Aktion airlift base.

The EKAB National Coordination Centre is in constant communication with all the emergency rescue bodies involved (Civil Protection General Secretariat, Hellenic Coast Guard, Air Force) regarding the progress of the sea rescue operation and has put the emergency procedural plan into action with all the EKAB units in the greater Preveza region. The plan involves specific procedures for emergency pre-hospital care and transportaion of those injured (triage) to suitable medical facilities.

Up to 14:45, an Air Force Search & Rescue Super Puma helicopter has brought 2 men (aged approximately 40 -50 years) and 1 woman (aged approximately 25) to Aktion airlift base, from where they were taken by ambulance to PrevezaGeneral Hospital.

The search and rescue operation is still continuing with the Hellenic Coast Guard, the Air Force and EKAB and we will have further news for the media."

Preveza General Hospital is expecting more injured and the bodies of the dead

According to information from prevezatoday.gr, 15 more injured people and 9 bodies are expected shortly at Preveza Hospital.

Preveza Municipality has already arranged accommodation for people in Zalongo Municipality.
