ATHENS. Corfu was in 4th place in Greece and had a record number of visitors over the 5-year period with over 3.5m cruise ship passengers - only Piraeus and Santorini had more.

In 2019 Corfu had its largest number of cruise ship passenger arrivals in the last five years according to data from the Hellenic Ports Association.

In 2019 Corfu had 767,673 passenger arrivals (4th in Greece) compared to 735,832 in 2018 (3rd - above Mykonos), 679,681 in 2017 (3rd - above Santorini), 748,916 in 2016 (3rd - above Mykonos) and 647,347 in 2015 (4th).

As can be seen from the data, the number of arrivals in has been increasing each year apart from in 2017 (there was also a decrease in Pireaus, Santorini and Mykonos that year). In that year - when there was a drop in numbers at all the ports - Corfu was in 3rd place in Greece, above Santorini and just below Mykonos in 2nd place.

In 2016, 2017 and 2018 was in 3rd place but in 2019 was pushed down into 4th place by Santorini and Mykonos. This was due to the large increase in arrivals in Santorini - from 749,286 in 2018 to 980,771 in 2019!

In 2019 420 cruise ships arrived at Corfu Port (4th place), in 2018 there were 413 (4th), 410 in 2017 (3rd - above Santorini), 481 in 2016 (4th - even though this was by far the largest number to come to Corfu in the 5-year period) and 407 cruise ships in 2015 (4th).

In total, 2,131 cruise ships visited Corfu Port with 3,579,449 tourists in the period 2015-19. During the same period the country's number one port Piraeus had 2,968 ships with 5,189,566 visitors.

In the same 5-year period Santorini had 2,680 ships with 3,926,447 passengers and Mykonos 2,731 ships with 3,561,481 passengers (17,968less than Corfu).

Santorini holds the record for the number of cruise ship arrivals - 636 in 2015, which was the only time Piraeus wasn't in first place and the only time that a port other than Piraeus had more than 600 arrivals in one year (Mykonos had 600 cruise ship arrivals the same year).

The record for the number of passenger arrivals during the 5-year period is held by Piraeus with 1,098,091 in 2019 - 4,000 more than its previous record in 2016. Piraeus broke through the 1m 'barrier' three times in the 2015-19 period.

In the whole of Greece there were 3,899 cruise ships in 2019 with 5,537,500 visitors - a record for the 5-year period. The number of cruise ships was greater than those in 2018 and 2017 but less than in 2016 and 2015.

The total number of visitors to Greece on cruise ships in the 2015-19 period was 25,120,179 with 19,325 port arrivals.
