CORFU. The leader of the ΄Prota i Kerkyra΄ party once again brought up the issue of security at Paleopolis in his question to the Mayor of Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands.
The leader of the 'Prota i Kerkyra' party Giorgos Kaloudis submitted a question to Mayor Meropi Ydraiou "Why is there no security at Paleopolis or Mon Repos? Thefts have begun."
Giorgos Kaloudis' question:
"Dear Madame Mayor,
Yesterday, Thursday 27th December - the second sunny day after Christmas, I went for my daily jog in Paleopolis and Mon Repos - property of Central Corfu Municipality - at 13:30. At the entrance two ladies who were taking a walk, visibly shaken, told me that a car had sped past them and that "it would have killed us if we hadn't jumped aside quickly!"
I went to take a look and outside the building where Alexia Glücksburg was born, near the hall where the Summit Meeting took place in 1994, a car (registration number ...IXE) was parked with its lights flashing. There were metal barriers next to the car, which had entered illegally - the driver was not in the car and was obviously taking a look around to see what he or she could take. It can be seen clearly on the photo I took with my mobile phone.

The Museum employee Stathis Provatas who was at the scene had already called the police and the two officers who were taking a look around Paleopolis found the driver and arrested him. He gave his name as Achileas and was possibly a Roma.
Several days ago at the Municipal Council meeting we brought up the matter of the contractor for the restoration of the three annexe buildings having stopped the work.

On several occasions I have seen people smoking in the estate - which is an extreme fire risk with all the trees and dense vegetation even in winter.
Until October 2019 there were two guards at the entrance - two charming ladies, one of whom swept and kept clean the 150m of road there.
WE ASK YOU
- Why have you removed the guards from Paleopolis and Mon Repos?
- Do you plan to immediately employ two guards as is required?"
