CORFU. Corfu radio station owners went to see the Corfu Prosecutor due to "repeated power cuts in the area with the radio and TV station aerials" on Mt. Pantokrator.
Representatives from Corfu Radio Stations Union visited the office of the Corfu Prosecutor Maria Tataki on Thursday 28 November to report the problems the radio station owners face due to repeated power cuts in the area with the radio and TV station aerials on Mt. Pantokrator.
The radio station owners expressed their frustration with the problematic DEDDIE electricity network in the following statement:
"For the owners of Corfu radio stations things have gone too far. Due to the problems with the DEDDIE electricity network - there are power cuts 3 -4 times a month - the aerials on Mt. Pantokratos frequently cannot broadcast in the area. This has a negative impact on the role of the electronic mass media - the provision of information and entertainment.
Unfortunately, recently the power cuts have increased in frequency, thus exacerbating the problems and making it impossible for the radio stations to operate smoothly - which obviously has a negative effect on their social role.
Another significant aspect of the problem is that it leads to financial losses for the stations at a time of economic crisis."
Corfu Radio Stations Union has lodged extrajudicial documents against DEDDIE stating the following:
"You are fully culpable for the frequent cuts in electricity supply - you have responsibility and have the means but have been negligent in providing a permanent solution to the problems in the network and neither have you installed an automatic reconnection mechanism for when elecricity is cut.
The fact that within three days - even if it's the third day - your crews restore the supply does not in any way absolve you of responsibility. The frequency of these cuts and the consequences for us - who belong to the high-consumption category - and for consumers / customers means that you are obliged to use all technical means available to reduce the risk of power cuts and when they do occur to restore supply immediately.
A recent example is the power cut in one of the phases on Monday 25 November at 06:50 - this document is being drawn up at 15:00 on Thursday 28 November and the supply has still not been restored!
This document is our final formal notice to you and if the situation continues we will seek justice at whatever court or authority is necessary."
