CORFU. The Deputy Mayor for Tourism Panayiotis Varouchas met with the Head of the newly-established University Tourism Department to exchange experiences and discuss implementation of know-how.
Deputy Mayor for Tourism Panayiotis Varouchas met with the Head of the newly-established University Tourism Department Adamantia Pateli at the Old Town Hall on Wednesday 27 November.
Ms. Pateli updated the Deputy Mayor on the Department's course subjects and the employment prospects for graduates in the local and national market. She placed special emphasis on the opportunities for work experience for the students in the field of tourism.
The Deputy Mayor proposed that they draw up a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Municipality and the Ionian University with common activities and mutually beneficial research and study programmes.
The exchange of experiences between the two sides and the implementation of know-how were considered to be a strategic priority for the development of sustainable tourism along with the drafting of advisory documents to aid businesses in the tourism industry.
Mr. Varouchas pointed out that the upcoming collaboration with the Ionian University Tourism Department is a strategic alliance with great ambitions which are completely feasible. This alliance needs to have the universal support of all those involved in the field of tourism, he said.
