Strong earthquake in Albania - at least 3 dead and hundreds injured

DURRES. Three dead following the strong earthquake in the early hours of the morning.
Albania was hit by a 6.4 Richter earthquake at 03:53 local time (04:53 Greek time) which was also felt in a large number of areas in northern Greece.
This is the second strong earthquake to hit the area in two months. The epicentre was 7km NE of Durrës, which is approximately 30km west of Tirana.
According to the European-Mediterranean Institute, the earthquake was 6.4 Richter and other sources say 6.3 Richter, although initially it was estimated at 6.6 Richter.
Following the main tremor, people started running out into the streets - many carrying babies. Buildings collapsed and apart from Durrës the towns of Tirana, Fier and Lezhë also suffered damage. There are said to be hundreds of injured and many trapped in buildings.
According to initial information, there are 150 people receiving hospital treatment in Tirana, Durrës and Kruja. Medical teams are on call in Tirana, Durrës and the whole of Albania. The Ministry of Education announced that schools will not open today in Tirana and Durrës.
There were dozens of aftershocks following the main earthquake.
