CORFU. The Hospital Administration announced that the overhaul of the archives, which began two years ago with the help of the Ionian University Archives & Library Science Dept., has now been completed.
The archives are now stored in specially designed area on the second basement floor.
This had been preceded, with the assistance of Petros Kostayiolas and the Archives & Library Science Dept., by the overhaul of the archive storage space on the first basement floor with a complete reclassification of files and a new classification based on AMKA allowing quicker and easier access to patients' files. The corridors by the lifts on the second basement floor, whose condition in 2016 had been absolutely apalling with damp patients' files scattered all over the place.
With the completion of work on the second basement floor, where files had been haphazardly kept in bin bags, the archives are now kept on a new set of dexion shelves purchased specially for this purpose. The overhaul of the hospital archives has now been completed. In addition to the work on the archives, the University Archives & Library Science Dept. also assisted with the creation of a new Library and Information Service in the hospital which was opened in June 2019.
Hospital Director Phivos Kakavitsas said, "We must clearly give thanks to Petros Kostayiolas and the others from the Ionian University Archives & Library Science Dept. for their invaluable assistance in this project.
You can see two photos of the same area comparing what the present Board found in 2016 and what it is like today."
