The first 15 aeroplanes will be coming to Corfu, Zakynthos and Kos.
The financial collapse of the British travel company Thomas Cook is a distressing development for the European tourist industry and the Greek market.
The Minister for Tourism Haris Theoharis and Deputy Manos Konsolas are in constant contact with all those involved to resolve the problems that have arisen from this development.
An operations centre has already been set up at the Ministry of Tourism to deal with the problems such as the repatriation of approximately 50,000 tourists with Thomas Cook packages who are in the country at the moment.
Mr. Theoharakis said that the repatriation procedure for the tourists in Greece with Thomas Cook has already begun with the first 15 aeroplanes coming to Corfu, Zakynthos and Kos. "We calculate that in the coming three days approximately 22,000 tourists will be repatriated," said the Minister.
Mr. Theoharakis said that the expenses for accommodation and repatriation of Thomas Cook customers have been covered from today until the end of their holidays.
The Ministry of Tourism is working with the Ministry of Finance and other related Ministries to find ways of supporting Greek tourist businesses which have been impacted and they will be updated with a later statement.
Ministry executives have also called a meeting with representatives of Greek tourist businesses and organisations.
