Official Coast Guard statement regarding death of 71-year-old in Ai Gordis

CORFU. The foreign national, who went missing on Sunday evening, was found dead in the sea at Ai Gordis on Sunday night.
An official statement was released on Monday morning regarding the death of the 71-year-old German on Sunday 15 September. The man had gone missing and was later found dead in the sea at Ai Gordis.
Official statement from the Coast Guard:
"Corfu and Paleokastritsa Port Authorities were alerted last night to the disappearance of a 71-year-old foreign swimmer near to Ai Gordis beach.
A patrol boat and a rescue boat from the Coast Guard immediately set off along with two private boats and the Hellenic Rescue Team and Hellenic Search and Rescue Team who reached the location by land.
The man was found and removed from the sea by a private diver and then taken to Corfu General Hospital, where death was confirmed.
Corfu Central Port Authority is conducting an investigation into the incident."
