CORFU. Despite the weather conditions the voluntary clean-up on Vidos went ahead.
Potamos 5th Scout Group and Cultural Society along with All Together for Corfu and a group of 20 American students now in Corfu restored the island to a hospitable and safe place for visitors.
Spyros Neratzis from All Together for Corfu told Enimerosi that the clean-up. which started on Friday and continued through the weekend, was aided by the Municipal Green Service, the Forestry Commission and personnel from IKOS which has rented the island's restaurant.
Transportation to and from Vidos for the volunteers was provided courtesy of Spyros Koutsokostas and the boat Agios Stefanos.
And the result of this 3-day effort? About 20 bags of rubbish were collected and the long grass around the campsite and the two beaches was cut and cleaned up. The showers were also replaced and some large trees near the Serbian Mausoleum pruned to remove dangerous branches.
It has been about three years since work of this kind has been carried out here - from the the time of the Music Festival 'Vida Laska'.
