Exciting finish in the Brindisi-Corfu Regatta!

ERIKOUSSA. Following a tremendous sprint three boats finished almost all together.

The trimaran Ad Maiora had been holding the lead from 7pm as the boats approached the finishing point at Erikoussa. The organisers had decided to shorten the route by 92 miles due to the meteorological forecast of strong winds and so the finishing line was moved to Erikoussa in the Diapontia Islands from Kassiopi.

Approaching Othoni the leading boat Ad Maiora was trapped in a 'wind hole' and its speed was reduced dramatically, cutting the distance between it and the following two boats - Idrusa and Lupa of the Sea. The two boats managed to catch it and when the Ad Maiora was able to build up speed again it made a tremendous sprint to make up for lost ground. In the early hours of the morning the boats finished almost all together. The initial results showed that the Ad Maiora and Idrusa finished at 00:10 (Italian time) and the Lupa of the Sea at 00:12. The official result will be announced by the judges' panel based on various factors.

The Award Ceremony will take place at Gouvia Marina on Tuesday 18th at 19:00. Gouvia Marina Sailing Club has been organising of the Regatta since 2015, when it took over from Corfu Sailing Club and Brindisi Sailing Club (Circolo Della Vela Brindisi).
