CORFU. The water supply problem in the Lefkimmi area over the last few days is due to damage to the pump in the main borehole.
According to the statement from DEYAK (Public Water Company), "Great efforts have been made by our crew, bearing in mind the technical difficulties seen in other similar cases. The damage was repaired as quickly as possible and normal operation resumed."
DEYAK wishes to inform consumers of the following:
1. With the next few days the central water supply pipe (1,100m) to Lefkimmi will be replaced.
2. An extra borehole has been repaired and put in operation.
3. The repair of the central water pumping station has been completed.
4. Work has been completed to make the water supply in Upper Lefkimmi autonomous.
5. Approval has been given to contract out of work, with a budget of 1,080,000 Euros, to replace the 10,000m local Lefkimmi network which is at present constructed of asbestos.
6. Work to construct two new boreholes has been contracted out and once the land purchase contract has been signed work will begin.
DEYAK would like to ask for the public's understanding regarding the problem of water shortage whilst it is making great efforts to solve the water supply problem in Lefkimmi.
