CORFU. These acts are definitely not by chance. It΄s not chance when it happens to lots of litter bins at the same time.
Vandalism has, unfortunately, become a regular occurence in the historical centre with its thousands of visitors every day. Public opinion tends to put it down to lack of policing or lack of proper education. The reality is probably a combination of both - personal conscientiousness is not something that can be copy/pasted.
However, it's impossible not to think that it's an act of anger or 'mob justice'. It is very easy to use litter bins to create a negative image of the town, especially when the amount of refuse is more than the Cleansing Service can handle. These acts are similar to the rubbish piles that catch fire 'by chance' or the 'disappearance' of refuse bins.
