CORFU. Advice from DEDDIE to avoid accidents when flying kites on Clean Monday.

The Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (DEDDIE) advises people not to fly their kites near to overhead power lines as there is a serious risk of electrocution and causing power cuts in the immediate area.

If your kite gets caught in an overhead power line:

1. Do not try to free it by pulling the string or using other objects, even wood.
2. Do not attempt to climb electricity poles, pylons or any other type of support. Do not attempt to climb any other structure close to the power lines.

If help is needed:

3. Call DEDDIE at 11500 or
4. Contact the nearest police station.

In order to respond quickly to any need for repairs due to kite-flying DEDDIE will have an increased number of crews available throughout the country.
