Police statement regarding the Lefkimmi arson investigation

CORFU. The damage estimate is in the region of 300,000 Euros.
Following the police investigation four people have been arrested and ten others identified as having been involved in the damage done to the South Corfu landfill.
The four people arrested are Greeks aged 30, 33, 35 and 40 and the other ten are also Greeks aged between 23 and 56. The police investigation sought to identify the people who, with their faces covered, took part in the arson attack on the electrical and mechanical equipment at the South Corfu landfill in Lefkimmi in the early hours of Tuesday 26 February with flammable substances (petrol, oil) and flares. The damage done is estimated to be around 300,000 Euros.
Evidence was collected and examined by Corfu police with the assistance of a police team from Patras.
Misdemeanour charges were brought against those involved for arson, possession and use of explosives and criminal damage as well as violation of the law regarding flares and in some cases weapons.
Those arrested were taken to appear before the Corfu Prosecutor.
