CORFU. There were two road accidents this morning - fortunately with no serious damage done - in Kanoni and Platytera.
Both accidents were caused by water leakages from burst pipes which had turned to ice - the temperature this morning was as low as -5 degrees Centigrade!
According to the Director of DEYAK (Public Water Company) Alekos Faitas, a repair crew has been in Kanoni since early this morning to deal with the burst pipe there. The burst pipe in Platytera is the responsibility of the contractor who was appointed by the Regional Administration to carry out the work. Mr. Faitas told Enimerosi that DEYAK contacted them about the damage before Christmas but nothing was done. Because of the water leakage there, which is freezing, the road has become extremely dangerous and according to locals, a lot of motorbikes were falling on the day it snowed.
