Corfu Mayor΄s message following the death of Rebecca Aaron

CORFU. "She was a living reminder of a dark period in history which remains an open wound for those that lived through it and a sacred trust for the rest of us."
Kostas Nikolouzos made the following statement regarding the death of Rebecca Aaron, Corfu's last remaining Auschwitz survivor:
"It was with great sadness that I heard of the death of Rebecca Aaron, which brings a chapter of our history to a close.
Rebecca Aaron was the last remaining Auschwitz survivor and as a teenager lived through tragic times in Corfu and European modern history. She was a living reminder of a dark period in history which remains an open wound for those that lived through it and a sacred trust for the rest of us. Mankind must not let the monster of fascism rear its ugly head again. Learning from history and preserving the memory is the best way to honour all these people.
My deepest condolences to her family."
