Car explosion in Eth. Palaiokastritsa Rd. in Kontokali

CORFU. It was like a scene from a movie. The car was heading for town when the driver saw that the engine had heated up.
He pulled over in order to check it. The high temperature caused the engine to catch fire, quickly spreading to the petrol tank and causing an explosion.
Fortunately, nobody was close to the car at that point and neither did it spread to close-by buildings. The Fire Service arrived with two vehicles and five firefighters who were able to quickly extinguish the fire.
The incident took place at about 19:40 on Wednesday evening. There was a lot of traffic at that time and the police had to close one of the lanes with smoke filling the area. Traffic resumed its normal flow soon afterwards but the car was completely destroyed.
