CORFU. The low-pressure front hit one of Corfu΄s landmarks.
The heavy storm on Sunday night broke some of the wooden blades on the Anemomylos at the edge of Garitsa Bay - one of Corfu's well-known landmarks.

Perhaps the incident wouldn't have been so significant if it weren't for the fact that there have recently been several cases of damage to Corfu 'monuments' due to poor maintenance. Following the damage in Liston with a Venetian lantern pieces of wall dropping off as well as the gradual deterioration of the Fortresses the broken Anemomylos blades serve as another reminder of the poor maintenance in this UNESCO Heritage Site.
The Anemomylos windmill has existed since Venetian times and was restored more recently. It is a favourite spot for tourists and photos as well as a landmark for Corfu bathers and walkers.
At this time it is the responsibility of Corfu Port Authority.
