CORFU. An International Symposium on Jainism is being held at the Museum of Asian Art 17 - 18 November.

The symposium is being organized by the Museum of Asian Art in collaboration with the Hellenic-Indian Cultural & Development Association (ELINEPA) (Athens), the Faculty of Hellenic Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and the Pan-Indian Organization for the Cultural Conservation of Jainism (New Delhi).

The Indian Ambassador for Greece Samma Jain will give the welcoming address.

At the symposium distinguished professors and researchers into Jain philosophy, religion, art, archaeology, sociology and other fields will present the results of their latest studies.

The Museum's permanent exhibition of Jain and Indian works of art will also be included in the conference along with a photography exhibition organized by the Pan-Indian Organization for the Cultural Conservation of Jainism.

The Symposium, which is the first of its kind to be organized in a European city, has attracted the interest of international Jain specialists as well as members of the Jain community who will be coming from various parts of the world to attend. Large publishing companies such as Cambridge Scholars and Motilal Banarsidas have expressed their interest in publishing the conference proceedings and making them available to researchers into this Indian religion, which may have only a small number of followers but has a huge cultural heritage.

The conference sessions and exhibitions will be open to the public. Students and researchers who attend will be given certificates of attendance.
