Museum of Asian Art educational programme "Say it with a Manga!"
CORFU. There will be a creative Manga workshop, in which pupils will draw their own comics.
The Museum of Asian Art is organising a new educational programme titled 'Say it with a Manga!'. The programme is aimed at 5th and 6th grade primary school pupils.
In the programme, pupils will learn about the history of Manga. Initially, they will get acquainted with the Japanese culture that created them, through Ukiyo-e ('Pictures of the Floating World'). These prints depict various aspects of Japanese social life as represented in the works of famous artists such as Katsushika Hokusai, Kitagawa Utamaro, and Utagawa Hiroshige.
Subsequently, the evolution of Manga will be presented through examples. How they transformed from comics in newspapers and magazines into animated cartoons for television and cinema - the well-known anime.
A creative Manga workshop will follow, in which the pupils will draw their own comics! With the help of an original card game inspired by creative writing, they will structure a complete Manga scene, bringing their own character to life.
