Corfu Tourism Conference: DMO and waste management facility at Temploni announced

CORFU. The 2nd Corfu Tourism Conference αείForum ended yesterday.

The second day of the conference proved to be especially productive. On Sunday morning the influence of new technology was clearly presented - in human relations in general and in the tourism economy in particular. The awaited 5G environment will be configured and processed in zero time Big Data which can diagnose and activate myriads of cases. This can be applied to business needs, allowing the data and configuration to be used as and how each individual situation demands.

In the final session prominent companies active in Corfu presented the reasons they chose to invest here.

The Deputy Mayor for Tourism Vassilis Kavadias asserted that the Destination Management Organization (DMO) can be set up within the framework of the Integrated Spatial Investment plan and receive funding from there. It was announced that the Municipality will be taking this initiative shortly.

Recognizing the grievous situation in which the island finds itself as regards the problem with the rubbish, the President of the Municipal Council Maria Mouzakiti concluded the conference by saying that it was estimated that by the end of the year the foundations will have been laid for the construction of the Integrated Waste Management facility at Temploni.

All of the speakers declared that the Corfu Tourism Conference has now become firmly established and needs to extend the areas of discussion and go into more depth.

It was also announced that by the end of the year the Ionian University needs to define the nature of the new Department of Tourism Economy and the study programme. According to initial information, it will be a strategic department focussing on the new technological culture.

The organizers and all those present commended the Dean of the IT Department for the excellent organization of the conference at the Ionian Academy along with the students from the university and the College of Tourism who supported the work of the conference in an exemplary way on both days.
